It’s important to take care of your dentures and keep them clean, just as you would your normal teeth.
Daily removal and cleaning is essential to prevent a build-up of bacteria, which can lead to infection and irritation. Correct cleaning is also very important to prevent staining on your dentures.
Modern dentures made of strong materials, however, we would recommend holding them over water when cleaning, as dropping onto a hard surface could cause a fracture.
Taking care of your dentures
If you wish to wear your dentures in bed, it is crucial that they are thoroughly clean. You should then try to remove them during a convenient time in the day instead.
Advanced Aesthetics can recommend denture creams and gels that are suitable for you to use along with a special denture brush. You should never use boiling water, abrasive toothpaste or any other cleaning chemicals, as these can damage your dentures.
Take care to clean every surface of your dentures, including the base area that has been touching your gums.
Your cleaning routine should also include your tongue, mouth and gums, particularly the gum area under your dentures. This gum area can benefit from a gentle massage with a special brush.
If you have dental implants, you must clean around these every day. You can use floss and special inter dental brushes to clean in all the small areas.
